Reflecting on TTLH’s New GCSE CPD event
On Thursday 26th June 2025, 22 teachers from across Birmingham, Stoke and Staffordshire attended TTLH’s final CPD event for the year. This event was an opportunity to pause and reflect on the whirlwind which has been the 2024-2025 academic year and in particular what’s gone well with the introduction of the new GCSE specification and what’s not gone quite so well.
Prior to coming to the CPD event, teachers were asked to reflect on positives and areas for development. What did they tell us?
What’s going well?

The number in the final column shows how many different people shared this opinion.

The session
During the CPD session, we took time to unpick these responses with time for input, reflection, action planning and sharing good practice across the room. The input from the TTLH team focused on the importance of stretch and challenge in a mixed ability classroom and the steps students need to go through to be able to speak spontaneously.
You can download the key take-aways from the session below.
The examples of how to incorporate the Thinking Harder devices into your lessons, can also be downloaded here.
Feedback
Feedback from the session was incredibly positive.
“Brilliant session. So valuable for the MFL community we need to have this nationally and more often. So brilliant to hear the MFL passion in the room.”
“It was really beneficial to look at challenge – things that are tangible to take away. Being able to network with other schools to share best practice.”
“There were lots of practical ideas underpinned by research. Really helps to focus next steps. Fantastic to share good practice and ideas with colleagues in other schools!”
