The Trent and Tame Language Hub Team based at the Arthur Terry School are delighted to invite all those involved in the delivery of primary language provision in Birmingham to TTLH’s Primary Launch Event.

Date:  Wednesday 12th June.  2.00p.m – 4.00p.m

Venue:  Boldmere St Michael’s Football Club. B73 5RY

Focus:  Exploring intrinsic motivation for language learning and creating a culture where all languages are valued in school.

In this session we’ll explore motivation theory and consider how our existing language provision in school supports learners to become independent and confident linguists.  We’ll also explore case studies from across the country exploring how schools ensure all languages are valued within their settings, with an eye on preparing for European Day of Languages in September 2024.

Join language teachers from across the region in our second CPD session looking forward to the new GCSE with first teaching in September 2024.  In the morning session (9.00 – 12.00) we will:

1. Develop our knowledge and understanding of motivation theory.  What does research tell us might support our learners to develop intrinsic motivation for language learning?

2. Discuss key take-aways from motivation theory which could impact the way in which we teach KS4 languages

3. Explore some of the ‘new’ elements of the reformed GCSE specification.  How might we adjust our teaching practice to support learners to tackle these areas?

4. Identify next steps and concrete actions.

In the afternoon session, we will:

5.  Enjoy lunch and time to network with like-minded colleagues

6.  Work collaboratively across schools to develop and share resources and best practice.
