How can we make Ks2 to Ks3 transition in Languages more effective?
The first step has to be to bring primary subject leads and secondary practitioners together in the same room!
This is exactly what the Trent and Tame Language Hub did on Wednesday 12th February at their Motivation and Transition CPD event. With sessions running concurrently at The Arthur Terry School in Birmingham and at Painsley Catholic College in Staffordshire, 35 teachers from 33 different schools across the area came together to consider how we build a consistent narrative about the value of language learning, starting in Ks2 and continuing beyond university and the world of work. We were also joined by Cathy Hampton from the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the University of Warwick who was able to complete the picture, adding perspectives from Higher Education into our discussions.
Feedback from the event has been incredibly positive.
“Fantastic course. Brilliantly put together and really opened my eyes to improving French at my school.” Primary Subject Lead – French.
“An excellent opportunity to discuss strategies, resources and common issues faced in MFL teaching. Positive and informative!” Secondary Head of Languages.
“A fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues across the area with different key stages with a recap of motivation theory and input from HE regarding Routes into Languages.” Secondary Head of Languages.
“Hearing so many excellent ideas for transitions, not just from ks2-3 but at other key moments as well was really beneficial.” Trust lead for Languages.
