Exploring Gimagine
German Week 2025, scheduled from 17 to 21 March, offers a unique opportunity to immerse students in the richness of the German language and culture. The Goethe-Institut’s GIMAGINE initiative provides a suite of resources to make this celebration both educational and engaging.
GIMAGINE Award:
Designed for learners aged 13 to 18, the GIMAGINE Award is a digital program that introduces students to the German language while fostering essential future competencies. The program comprises two main components:
- German Language Modules: Twenty interactive modules guide students through foundational German, making language acquisition accessible and enjoyable.
- Global Learning Modules: Students select five out of nineteen modules focusing on global themes, promoting critical thinking and cultural awareness.
Completing the program typically takes around 25 hours, culminating in an official certificate. Notably, this certificate can fulfill the Skills section requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, adding value to students’ extracurricular achievements.
Implementing the GIMAGINE Award in Schools:
Educators can integrate the GIMAGINE Award into their curriculum during German Week through:
- Structured Learning: Guide students through the German language modules, reinforcing lessons with classroom activities.
- Group Discussions: Facilitate conversations around the global learning topics, encouraging students to share perspectives and deepen their understanding.
- Certification: Upon completion, recognise students’ efforts by awarding the official certificates, celebrating their commitment to learning.
Additional materials available through the Goethe Institut:
Beyond the award program, The Goethe Insitut offers various initiatives to enrich German Week:
- German Clubs: Starter kits are available to establish German clubs, complete with handbooks, gamified learning challenges, and awards. These clubs can serve as hubs for cultural exchange and language practise
. - Exhibitions: The “Berlin – Capital of Women Scientists” exhibition provides teaching materials at A1 to A2 levels, highlighting influential female scientists and offering grammar and language exercises.
- Professional Development: The German Expert Mentors (GEMs) Network offers support and advice for all professionals.
By leveraging these resources, schools can create a vibrant and immersive experience during German Week 2025, inspiring a lasting appreciation for German language and culture among students. We can’t wait to see what you achieve!
