La Journée de la Francophonie celebrated at The Arthur Terry School
A collaboration between the Institut Français and the Trent and Tame Language Hub
On Wednesday, March 20th, The Arthur Terry School served as the bustling hub for a vibrant celebration of French language and culture during La Journée de la Francophonie. This collaborative effort between the Institut Français and the Trent and Tame Language Hub brought together students from Arthur Terry and three of Trent and Tame’s Partner Schools spanning from Birmingham to Stoke-on-Trent, in a rich tapestry of cultural exchange.
Throughout the day, the school buzzed with activity as students from diverse backgrounds engaged in various hands-on experiences. Crafting gargoyle masks from clay, reminiscent of France’s architectural wonders, allowed participants to unleash their creativity while forging bonds across linguistic and geographical boundaries. Additionally, a virtual reality tour transported students through the hallowed halls of the Notre Dame Cathedral, offering a unique glimpse into its rich history and intricate architecture.
Not stopping there, La Journée de la Francophonie also shed light on the sporting prowess of Francophone nations. From the ruggedness of sailing to the adrenaline of alpine skiing, students explored the diverse array of Olympic sports associated with French-speaking countries, fostering a deeper appreciation for their cultural significance.
One of the enthusiastic participants, shared her thoughts on the day, saying:
“La Journée de la Francophonie was an incredible experience that allowed me to not only learn about French culture but also immerse myself in it. Crafting the gargoyle masks was so much fun, and the virtual tour of Notre Dame felt like a journey through time. I also enjoyed discovering the diversity of Olympic sports associated with Francophone countries. It was truly an enriching day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”
La Journée Francophonie at The Arthur Terry School exemplified the power of collaboration in fostering cultural capital and language learning, leaving an indelible mark on all who participated. The Trent and Tame Language Hub would like to extend our gratitude to the Institut Français, Hamstead Hall, Erdington Academy and Cardinal Griffin schools for their support and their participation.
