Launch Event
Wednesday 14th February, 2024
Monday 5th February 2024 saw the official launch of the Trent and Tame Language Hub. A collaboration between the Arthur Terry School in Birmingham and Painsley Catholic College in Staffordshire, the Language Hub welcomed 47 language teachers from 36 different schools across the region to a face-to-face session exploring the new GCSE. Alongside introducing NCLE, the consortium partners and the language hub programme, those attending had an opportunity to explore immediate considerations for the new GCSE with a virtual presentation from Helen Myers. Feedback from the event was tremendously positive.
“It was incredibly useful and we are so grateful to the Trent and Tame team for including us. It was very well-organised, Helen was fantastic and the opportunity to spend the afternoon discussing the new GCSE with other MFL teachers was so beneficial.” MFL Head of Department.
Tracy Williams, co-language hub lead was delighted with attendance at the event and the number of schools wanting to work alongside the Language Hub. “It’s amazing to have an opportunity to bring language teachers together. The power of the Language Hub programme will come from the networks which are created. Passionate language teachers working collaboratively to find innovative solutions to the challenges we find ourselves faced with on a daily basis in our classroom.”
Clare Oberman, co-language hub lead is looking forward to the development and growth of the hub. “Schools at the launch event were given an opportunity to share how they’d like to work with us moving forward. Providing opportunities for collaboration, sharing best practice, and collectively exploring the evidence base underpinning high-quality language teaching all feature in the plans for the hub.” To find out more about the Trent and Tame Language hub please visit Trent and Tame Language Hub (ttlh.org.uk)
The Trent and Tame Language Hub is one of 15 newly designated Language Hubs working as part of the National Consortium for Language Education. Clare Oberman, continues: “In the Midlands, we are very fortunate to have four Language Hubs supporting schools to raise uptake and attainment in KS4, provide levelling up opportunities for disadvantaged students alongside exploring reasons for the underperformance of boys in the subject. We’ve enjoyed working collaboratively with the other Midlands Language hubs and will continue to do this moving forward.”
The Grand Union, Swanswell and Derwent Language Hubs also launched their respective programmes on the 5th February 2024. For more information on the NCLE programme visit NCLE – National Consortium for Languages Education (ucl.ac.uk)
